Terms of use

Effective date: TODO: publication date

These terms apply to the HalalFlix browser extension and this website ("HalalFlix", "we", "us"), run by TODO: your full legal name or company name. By installing or using HalalFlix, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use HalalFlix.

1. What HalalFlix does

HalalFlix is a browser extension that skips ahead in a video player on your own device when a scene you've chosen to avoid is tagged. It does not edit, copy, download, store or re-host any video, and it does not give you access to any content you don't already have.

2. No guarantee

HalalFlix is provided free of charge, "as is" and "as available". Skip segments are tagged by people and, on some services, suggested by AI. They can be missing, late, early or wrong, and many titles have not been reviewed yet. We do not guarantee that HalalFlix will skip every scene you want to avoid, that it will work on every title, service or browser, or that it will keep working if a streaming service changes its website. Please supervise children's viewing. You can report a missed scene and we'll review it, but we can't promise a fix by any particular time.

HalalFlix gives you controls; it does not make religious rulings or certify any content as suitable or permissible. What you choose to watch is your decision.

3. Your responsibilities

4. No affiliation

HalalFlix is independent. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by or approved by Netflix, YouTube, Google, Amazon (Prime Video), Apple (Apple TV+), Plex or any other streaming service. Their names are used only to describe which services HalalFlix works with, and their trademarks belong to their owners.

5. Contributions

When you submit skip segments or reports (timestamps and categories), you give us a free, worldwide, permanent licence to use, change and share them as part of HalalFlix so that other families benefit. We may review, edit or remove any contribution.

6. Optional AI filter

If you use the optional AI filter on YouTube or Plex, selected video frames are sent to an AI provider for checking, as described in our privacy policy. TODO: while the extension asks users for their own Anthropic API key, add: "If you enter your own API key, you are responsible for any charges and for complying with that provider's terms."

7. Price and changes

HalalFlix is free. We may add optional paid features in the future; if we do, we'll explain them clearly and you'll never be charged unless you choose to sign up. We may change, pause or stop HalalFlix or any feature at any time.

8. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, or for anything seen or heard while using HalalFlix, arising from your use of it. Because HalalFlix is free, our total liability to you for any claim is limited to £50 (or the equivalent in your currency). Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot legally be limited, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence or for fraud, or your statutory rights as a consumer. TODO: have this section checked by an adviser.

9. Ending use

You can stop using HalalFlix at any time by removing the extension. We may block access to the shared database for anyone who misuses it.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. We'll change the date at the top, and for significant changes we'll let you know in the extension or on this website. Continuing to use HalalFlix after a change means you accept the new terms.

11. Law

These terms are governed by the laws of TODO: England and Wales, or your country. If you live elsewhere, you keep any consumer protections the law of your country gives you.
